William Jewell to Suspend Men's Wrestling Program

LIBERTY, Mo. - William Jewell College is pausing operations of the men's wrestling program following the 2023-2024 season. Recruiting student athletes for the program has ended and practice or competition for current athletes in the program will not be available beginning in 2024-2025.

The pause is indefinite as a timeline for reactivating the program will rely on an assessment of program viability when the College is near completion of expanded athletic facilities. Assessing viability will include ensuring a strong candidate pool for a head coach can be cultivated. This decision in no way impacts the women's wrestling program.

Current athletes were notified of the decision on September 11, 2023, and have been offered the opportunity to compete throughout 2023-2024. The College is committed to the existing schedule for current members of the program should athletes choose to continue at Jewell. The athletic department is ensuring necessary resources and support are available so that students and their families have a complete assessment of their options for enrollment, participation in wrestling, impacts on eligibility and, if necessary, guidance for transfer to another institution. Desiree Ramos, head coach of the women's wrestling program, will be the primary sponsor for any continuing men's activities with support from other administrators inside the athletics department.
