Cardinals Continue GLVC Play at Rockhurst and Southwest Baptist

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell women's basketball team returns to the road this weekend, first with a stop at Rockhurst on Thursday followed by a trip to Southwest Baptist on Saturday afternoon.

CARDINAL NOTES

  • Jewell is coming off an important 74-68 win over Illinois Springfield on Monday to open Great Lakes Valley Conference play. The Cardinals withstood a late run by UIS as Kate Hillyer scored the final seven points to secure the victory.
  • Ayden Shannon continues to put up big numbers, pouring in 22 points on Monday for her fourth consecutive 20-plus performance. The junior is second in the GLVC and 14th in Division II in scoring while shooting better than 53% from the field, fifth best in the league.
  • Ella Bockenstedt has worked her back into the rotation from an injury that kept her sidelined all of last season as the redshirt freshman appeared in a career high 26 minutes on Monday and played a critical role in the win over UIS. During that time, she scored nine points while pulling down 10 rebounds while blocking three shots.
  • Despite a season high 20 turnovers against UIS on Monday, the Cardinals continue to post an strong average of 13 per game, 15th best in Division II.
  • Kirsten Hauck has become a reliable third offensive threat for the Cardinals, entering the weekend averaging 8.8 points, after scoring 14 on Monday against Illinois Springfield. The freshman from Waukee, Iowa is currently shooting better than 55% from the floor and nearly 53% from long range.
  • Bree Shannon played 32 minutes on Monday, scoring eight points but also handed out a career high seven assists, the most by a Cardinal since Sydney Offield's eight in February 2021. The junior enters the weekend with a team leading 2.2 assists per game while also adding 5.2 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.2 steals.
  • The Cardinals have been one of the more efficient teams when getting to the free throw line while also playing defense without fouling. Jewell is sixth in the league with 19.0 free throw attempts per game while 64% from the line. On the other side, they are third in the GVLC and 40th nationally, averaging just 15 fouls per game.
  • Saturday will be a homecoming of sorts for graduate senior Karlee Holland as she returns to Southwest Baptist where she earned her undergraduate degree last spring after appearing in 43 games for the Bearcats.
