MARYVILLE, Mo. - The William Jewell softball team dropped their final non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday at Northwest Missouri State, falling 3-0 and 9-4. The Cardinals drop to 23-31 on the season.
GAME ONE: Northwest Mo. St. 3, Jewell 0
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Sammie Welt held Northwest Missouri State quiet for much of the opening game, allowing just a solo home run over the first five frames. The Bearcats struck for two more in the sixth to put the game away.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Jewell was limited to three hits in the opener, with two by Sabrina Olmo, including a double.
- Welt (0-3) took the loss, striking out five over six frames.
GAME TWO: Northwest Mo. St. 9, Jewell 4
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After the Bearcats took an early 4-0 lead, Jewell got two back on consecutive bases loaded walks to cut the deficit in half.
- Northwest Missouri State added a run in the third but an Alexa Almejo two-run home run pulled the Cardinals back within one.
- The home team added two runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth to close the game out, 9-4.
