Cardinals Hit the Road for First Time in 2025

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell women's basketball team hits the road for the first time in 2025 as they travel to McKendree and Maryville.

CARDINAL NOTES
  • Jewell opened January will a tough 88-55 loss to Drury University last weekend. The Cardinals held tough in the first quarter before cold shooting in the second frame allowed the Panthers to create separation.
  • Kate Hillyer has been on an upward trajectory since the month of December began, averaging 17 points per game, including a season high 20 against Ottawa (Dec. 18). During that stretch the senior has made a living at the free throw line, going 30-for-32 (93.7%) to jump to eighth in the GLVC in total free throws and fifth in percentage at 84.6% on the season. Last Friday, she scored a team high 18 points against Drury scoring 12 of those points from the stripe.
  • Another player who has seen an uptick in production as of late is Paris Opelt. The rookie has pulled down grabbed a team high 14 rebounds over the last two games while scoring eight points and handing out three assists.
  • Jewell has consistently gone 10 deep on the bench this season as the Cardinals enter the week ranked eighth in the league in bench scoring with nearly 20 points per game. Morgan Ives, Caitlin Behling, Karlee Holland, Paris Opelt, and Maja Komaszynska all average at least 2.5 points per game, primarily off the bench.
  • The Cardinals have lived by the three point shot this season, averaging better than seven per game, third most in the GLVC but are eighth with a 32.2% clip. In Jewell's three wins, the team has hit a combined 26 triples but struggled last weekend against Drury, going 6-for-24 from long range.
  • Caitlin Behling continues to be a spark off the bench for Jewell, averaging seven points and two rebounds over the last two games, with a season high 12 points against Ottawa.
  • Rebounds have been hard to come by at times this winter for the Cardinals who are 14th in the league with just 31.3 per game, led by Ella Bockenstedt's 4.8. This week, Jewell will face off with two of the top-5 GLVC teams in offensive rebounding, as both grab more than 11 per game.
