Burlingame Named Director of Athletic Performance

LIBERTY, Mo. – William Jewell College Athletics has tabbed Ian Burlingame as Director of Athletic Performance, beginning September 8.

"We are thrilled to welcome Ian back home to the Kansas City area," said Senior Associate Athletics Director JaeLynn Ellison. "He brings a great balance of knowledge and energy to our Athletic Performance Center and his philosophies around strength and conditioning align with our department and coaching staff. We're excited to get Coach B on The Hill working with our student-athletes as kick off this new year."

Burlingame joins the Cardinal staff after two years as the head strength and conditioning coach at Columbia College (Mo.) where he worked with the Cougars 17 sports, including multiple nationally ranked programs. His work in strength and conditioning helped Columbia capture two Presidents' Cups in the American Midwest Conference, including winning by 52.5 points in 2024-25. The Cougars finished fourth or better in every AMC sport with eight championships, their second-highest total since 2011. Additionally, CC won their first-ever Valerie Beeson Women's Sports Championships trophy in the AMC, after winning conference titles in women's soccer and golf, along indoor and outdoor track and field.

Prior to his stint at Columbia, he spent time at the University of Utah as an intern working with the Utes football and men's tennis programs. He also completed his master's degree at Missouri Western State University where he served as a graduate assistant, implementing concurrent strength, speed, agility, mobility, and conditioning programs for multiple sports.

A former collegiate student-athlete, Burlingame played baseball at Avila University (Mo.) where he earned his bachelor's degree in kinesiology followed by a master's degree in applied science in sport and fitness management at Missouri Western. A native of nearby Independence, Mo., and graduate of Fort Osage High School, he holds certification as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS).
