After their first victory of the season last Saturday, the William Jewell Cardinals returned to the field to play the Orediggers of the Colorado School of Mines, an NCAA Division II team out of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.   The Orediggers came away with a dominating 33-0 victory.

On a stormy day that included an hour and a half weather delay, the William Jewell offense struggled to move the ball the entire game, picking up 121 yards on offense on 47 plays from scrimmage.
On defense, the Cardinals were able to stay with the Orediggers for most of the first half, only giving up two touchdowns until right before the end of the first half and the lightning storm that caused the teams to take shelter. On what seemed like the crucial turning point in the game, the Cardinals were charged with an illegal substitution penalty that would set up a 4th and two for the Colorado School of Mines. Instead of punting, the Orediggers converted for a first down, making it all the way to the William Jewell two yard line.

After the weather delay Jewell's defense gave up a one yard touchdown run to make the score 19-0 in Colorado's favor. With 48 seconds left in the half, there was only time for Jewell's offense to run the clock out and end the half.

After one of the strangest second quarters in recent memory, with a weather delay and a two minute half-time period, the Jewell defense was unable to stop the Orediggers powerful offense.
In the third quarter, the lead was stretched to 33 points on two running touchdowns by Orediggers running back Dan Palmer. He would end the game with three total rushing touchdowns.

The Cardinals offensive leaders were junior running backs Phil Ancar, who had 24 yards on 5 carries, Andrew Edwards, with 15 yards on two carries, and senior wide receiver Ethan Cunningham, who had one catch for 16 yards.

On defense, William Jewell had three sacks. Freshman linebacker Luis Necoecha and senior defensive end Ben Roberts each had one. Senior linebackers Nathan Valentine and Nelson Windebank also came together to share one sack. Senior safety Kurt Webster also had an interception, his third takeaway in just two games.
William Jewell, 1-1 on the year will have an open week next Saturday but will return to action Saturday, September 17 against Urbana University at 1:00 p.m. at  Greene Stadium in Liberty, Mo.-Story by Kurt Hixson
