Cards Fall in GLVC Twinbill to Lewis University

The William Jewell College baseball team was swept by fellow Great Lakes Valley Conference foe Lewis University by scores of 11-6 and 4-1 on Sunday at Jack Talley Stadium in Liberty, Mo.

In game one, the Cardinals jumped out to an early 3-0 lead with three runs in the bottom of the third inning as David Smith collected and RBI and Willie Gaball knocked in two.

The Flyers answered with six in the fourth and never looked back from there. 

David Collins (2-3) took the loss for Jewell tossing three and two third's innings giving up five hits and six runs (five earned) while walking three and striking out 3.

Kaleb Shaw  went two for four with an RBI and a run scored while Gaball went one for four with two RBI's and a run scored.

In game two,  Lewis took the lead with single runs in the second and third inning respectively.  The Cardinals scored their only run of the game in the as Bryan Rezin drove home Willie Gaball in the bottom of the fourth. 

Jewell hurler Preston Felgate (2-2) went the distance for the Cards tossing seven innings giving up ten hits and four runs (three earned) while striking out five.

Offensively, Gaball went three for three with a run scored for Jewell.

The Cardinals, 7-9 on the year will take on St. Joseph's College on Saturday, March 24 at 12:00 p.m.  in Rensselaer, Ind.
