William Jewell junior pitcher Cody Downing (El Paso, Texas) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Baseball Player of the Week.

Downing earns his first Pitcher of the Week award after securing Jewell's first conference win of the season – a 6-0 victory over Indianapolis.  The El Paso, Texas native went the full seven innings on Sunday, registering four hits, seven strikeouts and three walks.  Downing's efforts earned him his first victory and complete game in his fourth start this year.  Downing joins men's soccer player Troy Green as the only student athletes to earn GLVC player of the week honors in 2011-12. 

The Cardinals, 8-11 overall and 1-6 in GLVC play, will take on Maryville University on Saturday, March 31 at 12:00 p.m. in St. Louis, Mo.
