Rockhurst University came to Liberty and pounded out 27 hits in the doubleheader sweep of William Jewell Wednesday, winning the opening seven inning game 8-4 and downing the Cardinals in the nine inning game 7-1.

Seven hits were from Rockhurst (22-12, 13-9 GLVC) senior Ryan Porter, who had two home runs and drove in seven..

The Cards (15-20, 7-15 GLVC) had eight hits in the first game and six in the second, but found themselves down 7-0 at different stages of both games.

Junior Cody Downing (1-3) took the loss for Jewell in game one, pitching into the third inning but allowing 5 runs.  Preston Felgate, one of four pitchers used in the game by Jewell, pitched 3 1/3 innings of relief and allowed only one run on 5 hits. Kaleb Shaw drove in two runs for the Cardinals, with Drew Matrisin and Scotty Scott also driving in runs.  Willie Gaball had two hits.

In game two, Rockhurst jumped to a 7-0 lead against Matt Milz (1-2), who went 2 1/3 innings as the starter and took the loss, allowing two runs on five hits.  The Cardinals, though, made four errors in the game and were held to a single hit through the first five innings, and scored their only run on Clark O'Dowd's single in the seventh inning.  No Cardinal had more than one hit in the game, and Rockhust turned three double plays.

The Cardinals will look to rebound against Missouri S&T with a four-game series over the weekend at Fred Flook Field.
