The William Jewell College baseball team swept Missouri S&T in GLVC doubleheader action on Sunday winning 5-2 in game one and 2-1 in the nightcap. 

Jewell made the most of their opportunities scoring in just two innings in both games.  The Cardinal pitching staff held one of the top hitting teams in the GLVC to just eight hits in two games on Sunday. 

In game one, the Miners jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first.  Jewell then responded by scoring five runs in the bottom half of the inning.  Drew Mitrisin singled home the first run for the Cards with the bases loaded.  Kaleb Shaw followed that with a hit that was in and out of the glove of the Miners left fielder that allowed two more runs to score.  Tom Herrera then hit a ball that went through the S&T shortstop's glove which allowed two more runs to score.  

Herrera led the Cardinals with a hit and two RBI's. 

David Collins (5-4) tossed a complete game five hitter allowing two runs and two walks while striking out five. 

In game two, Missouri S&T again scored first in the opening inning off a sacrifice fly.

The Cardinals then scored two in the bottom of the second when David Smith delivered a two-out two run triple to give the Cardinals their only two runs of the game. 

That was all that starter Cody Downing (2-3) would need and he tossed 9 innings giving up only three hits, one run and four walks while fanning nine.  

The Cardinals, 17-22, 9-17 in GLVC play, will take on Ottawa University on Tuesday, April  24 at Jack Talley Stadium on the Jewell campus in Liberty, Mo.
