Box Score
William Jewell baseball lost their final game of the season, dropping a 4-3 decision to Southwest Baptist University Wednesday afternoon at Jack Talley Stadium.
Not that they didn't have their chances.
Jewell left 19 men on base in the nine-inning game, as SBU walked 10, hit one, and allowed 10 Cardinal hits in the game. Jewell left the bases loaded four times, and had the winning run at second base in the bottom of the ninth before a strikeout ended the game.
All 10 of Jewell's base hits were singles.
Cody Downing (4-4) took the loss for Jewell in relief of starter
Trevor Bowden, who went six innings and gave up three runs on five hits. Downing allowed one unearned run on two hits over three innings, but was hurt by an error followed by a run-scoring double in the ninth inning that gave SBU (21-25) the winning run.
For Jewell, Tom Herrara had a two-run single to tie the game in the seventh inning after walking and scoring in the sixth inning on
David Smith's RBI single.
Drew Mitrisin had two hits for the Cardinals, as did J.P. Bartmess.
Scotty Scott walked three times for Jewell.
The Cardinals end their year 19-28.
