Jewell footballl took on another NCAA Division II powerhouse on Saturday night, dropping a 56-0 game to Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Missouri.

The top-ten rated Griffons scored on the second play from scrimmage and never looked back, leading 35-0 at halftime.  Jewell's best drive of the game came in the third quarter when the Cardinals penetrated to the deep inside Western territory, only to have a Sean Shelton pass tipped and intercepted at the 10 yard line.

Another Jewell drive earlier in the the game ended with a fumble into the end zone from the Griffon two yard line.  The Cards had three turnovers to the Griffon's one turnover, an Eric Jackson interception in the second quarter.

Western had 398 yards and five touchdowns rushing against the Cardinals.  Jewell threw for 178 yards, led by Jon Molzen's 92 yards on five receptions.

The Cardinals, 0-2 after an opening loss to top 25 Colorado School of Mines in the opener last week, face their first GLVC opponent of the year at home next Saturday at 1:00.
