The William Jewell Cardinals wrapped up a four game series with Great Lakes Valley Conference opponent Kentucky Wesleyan College in Liberty, Mo. The Cards fell 3-2 in game one but came back to take the nightcap 2-0.
In game one, The Panthers led 3-0 after scoring a single run in the first followed by two in the second.
Jewell scored a single run in the second and scored a single run in the fourth off an RBI single by
Jordan Rice.
Kentucky Wesleyan hurler Jon Walding held the Cardinals at bay for the rest of contest earning the win to improve to 3-0 on the season.
Billy Kirkpatrick (0-1) was the hard luck loser for the Cardinals going the distance giving up only four hits and three runs while striking out two.
In Game two, the Cardinals rode the arm of
David Collins (1-3) as he went the distance tossing a complete game shutout giving up only four hits while striking out four. Jewell plated home two runs in the bottom of the fifth with J.D. Weyer and
Clarke O'Dowd collecting both RBI's.
Jewell moves to 5-6 and 2-2 in GLVC play while Kentucky Wesleyan falls to 6-8 overall and 2-2 in the GLVC.
The Cardinals will host University of Saint Mary on Tuesday afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
