The William Jewell Baseball team rallied for a 6-5 win over former Heart of American Conference opponent Graceland University on Monday in Liberty, Mo.
The Yellowjackets jumped out to a 4-1 lead after five innings. They increased the lead to 5-1 after the top of the eighth before the Cardinals began their rally.
Sam Thomas led off the eighth with a double and scored off a single by
Bryan Rezin.
Tom Herrera was reached after being hit by a pitch and then J.D. Weyer followed with a single.
Clarke O'Dowd was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and then
Jordan Rice delivered a two-run single to tie the game 5-5.
In the bottom of the ninth, Thomas again led off and singled and advanced to second on a balk. After Graceland intentionally walked the bases loaded O'Dowd delivered the game winning single to give the Cards the win.
O'Dowd finished the game 2-4 with two RBI's and Rice finished 2-3 with three RBI's.
Preston Felgate ( 2-0) earned the relief win by pitching 4.2 innings giving up one hit and one run while striking out three.
The Cardinals, 6-6 on the year, will host University of Saint Mary on Tuesday at Jack Talley Stadium on the Jewell campus in Liberty, Mo.
