Jewell Baseball Falls to University of Saint Mary

Box Score Cardinal baseball was stung on Tuesday by the University of Saint Mary 8-4 in non-conference baseball at Jewell's Talley Stadium.

On a cold afternoon in which each coach used their bullpen extensively, the Cardinals got out to a 4-0 lead with a run in the first inning on an RBI groundout by Clark O'Dowd, then added three runs in the third inning on an RBI double by J. D. Weyer, a balk that scored O'Dowd, and an RBI single by Jordan Rice.

USM countered with a four-run fourth, touching Jewell starting pitcher Lane Eichman for all the runs.  In the sixth inning, the Spires added four more runson four hits.

Despite matching the Spires with nine hits in the game, the Cardinals could not come up with more runs as they fall to 6-7 on the year; Saint Mary is 7-12.

Tim Miller, one of five pitchers used by Jewell in the game, was the loser (0-1), going two innings, allowing 1 run on no hits, walking two and striking out one.

The Cardinals continue GLVC action this weekend with doubleheaders at McKendree University on Saturday and Sunday.
