The William Jewell Baseball team split a doubleheader with conference rival Rockhurst in Great Lakes Valley action on Tuesday afternoon at Talley Stadium. The Cards fell 5-1 in game one before taking the nightcap 6-1. Jewell moves to 13-21 on the season and 9-15 in the GLVC.
In the first game, Rockhurst jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning thanks to two Cardinal errors. Jewell plated their only run of the contest in the bottom of the second as
Sam Thomas drove home the only run for Jewell.
Billy Kirkpatrick (0-4), took the loss tossing 5.1 innings giving up seven hits, five runs (two earned) and struck out one.
In the second game, the Cardinals came out swinging, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first. Jewell added a single run in the second and two in the sixth.
Jesse Gray finished 2-3 with two RBI's and a run scored.
Taylor Williams went 2-4 with two runs scored and two stolen bases.
Dylan Pollock (1-0) picked up the victory going eight strong innings allowing only four hits, and one run while striking out five.
Next up for the Cardinals is a GLVC four game series with Maryville University beginning on Saturday, April 20.
