The William Jewell Baseball team was swept by Missouri S&T in a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader Sunday afternoon in Rolla, Mo. Jewell fell 6-4 in game one and 10-2 in the nightcap. The Cardinals move to 18-24 overall and 12-18 in GLVC play.
In game one, the Miners jumped out to a 2-0 lead.
Tom Herrera blasted a two-run homerun in the top of the third to tie it up at 2-2.
S&T scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth and scored one more in the bottom of the eighth to produce the 6-4 winning margin.
Herrera finished 2-5 with two RBI's and a run scored.
Bryan Rezin was 4-5 with a run scored.
Drew Mitrisin (6-2) tossed five innings giving up nine hits, and five runs while striking out two and walking two.
In game two, the Miners struck early and often. S&T scored in the first, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth innings and never allowed the Cardinals to get close.
David Collins (3-8) took the loss going five innings giving up nine hits, six runs (four earned) while striking out one. Rezin continued his hot streak going 2-3 and is now hitting .364 on the season.
The Cardinals will finish the four game series with Missouri S&T with a doubleheader tomorrow beginning at 12:00 p.m.
