The William Jewell College Baseball team dropped a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader to Quincy University on Saturday falling by scores of 9-1 and 6-5.

In game one, the Hawks used a strong pitching performance from Clayton Hicks who tossed eight innings giving up only three hits, and one run while striking out eight Cardinals.

Preston Felgate took to loss to fall to 2-2 on the season.  He went five innings giving up eight hits and six runs (two earned) while walking three and fanning one.  Tom Herrera delivered Jewell's only RBI of the game in the eighth inning. 

In game two, The Cardinals jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead after the first inning but unfortunately that is all the Cards would score for the rest of the game as Quincy notched one in the bottom of the first, two in the second, two in the fifth and Mitchell Broughton delivered a game winning RBI single in the bottom of the seventh.

Cody Downing took the loss after relieving Billy Kirkpatrick in the third inning.  Downing tossed four innings giving up three hits and three runs (two earned), while striking out two.  Hunter Bingham and Sam Thomas each finished with two hits and an RBI.

The Cards (9-16, 5-11 GLVC) will continue their series tomorrow with Quincy at 12:00 p.m. in Quincy, Ill.
