Box Score 2 William Jewell baseball started a four-game weekend road trip against Maryville University in St. Louis Saturday, dropping the first game to the Saints 4-1, then bouncing back to win 7-3 in the second game.
Jewell goes to 7-13 overall, 5-5 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
In game one, the Saints jumped to a 3-0 lead after five innings against
David Collins, who took the loss (seven innings, five hits allowed, three earned runs, three strikeouts and no walks) amd on the year. Dylan Pollack pitched the eigth inning and gave up an unearned run and a hit.
Bryan Porting went 3-4 and
Sam Morman went 2-4 at the plate for Jewell, who outhit Maryville 7-6; the Cardinals, though, left eight runners on base in the game.
In the second game, a seven-inning affair, Jewell broke open a three-all tie with four runs in the top of the seventh inning to give
Preston Felgate (2-2) the win (six innings, seven hits, three runs, four strikeouts and two walks).
Blaze Carano pitched a perfect seventh inning but did not qualify for the save due to the lead being in excess of three runs.
The Cardinals again outhit Maryville, this time by an11-8 margin. Porting went 2-3, Morman 2-4 with a double and an RBI,
Bryan Rezin had a double and RBI, and
Jared Patton knocked in two runs with a double.
Jordan Rice also drove in a run for Jewell.
The Cardinals continue the series with Maryville on Sunday with a seven inning game starting at noon, and a nine inning game following.
