The William Jewell College baseball team settled for a split in doubleheader action Sunday afternoon against University of Sioux Falls in Russellville, Ark.
In Game one, the cougars grabbed the early lead with two runs in the top of the first. Jewell scored a single run in the second then exploded for four runs in the third. Sioux Falls scored single runs in the fourth and seventh and the Cards added on a single run in the fifth to produce the game winning total of 6-4.Â
Vance Gorman collected two hits and two RBIs to pace The Cardinals offense.
Drew Mitrisin (1-0) picked up his first win of the season going the distance giving up 8 hits and four runs while striking out three.
Game two saw the Cards jump to early 1-0 lead with an RBI single in the third.
The Cards held on to that lead until the Cougars rallied with a single run in the eighth and two more runs in the ninth.Â
Billy Kirkpatrick (0-1) was the hard luck loser tossing a complete game giving up six hits, three runs (zero earned) while striking out five. Â
Jewell will return to the Diamond as they host Northwest Missouri State University on Wednesday, March 12 at 2:30 p.m. at Talley Stadium on the Jewell campus in Liberty, Mo.
