Cards Swept in Doubleheader at Drury

The William Jewell College baseball team fell to 9-22 overall and 7-14 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play as they began a four game series at Drury University on Friday, dropping a doubleheader by scores of 3-2 and 4-0.

In game one, Jewell opened the scoring in the top of the fifth, when Zach Tyson's single plated home Clarke O'Dowd who doubled earlier in the inning.  Drury responded with two runs in the bottom of the sixth before the Cards tied things up in the top of the seventh as O'Dowd hit a solo homerun.  

The Panthers scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh and were able to hold the Cards in order in the eighth and ninth innings respectively. 

Drew Mitrisin (2-3) gave up seven hits and three runs in 8 innings of work.  He also struck out four. 

In the nightcap, Drury's Will Landsheft tossed a no-hitter going seven innings, no hits and three walks while striking out 10. 

Drury scored one in the first, two in the third, and one in the sixth to produce the winning margin.

Billy Kirkpatrick (1-5) tossed six innings giving up 8 hits, four runs and three walks while striking out one. 

The series continues Saturday at 3:00 p.m. with another doubleheader.
