Cards Earn GLVC Sweep Over Missouri S&T

The William Jewell Cardinal baseball team swept a Great Lakes Valley Conference double header  with Missouri S&T on Saturday afternoon at Talley Stadium in Liberty, Mo. 

The Cardinals took game one by a score of 4-3 and 5-2 in the second game. 

In game one, Jewell jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first.  Hunter Brown and Jared Patton delivered RBI singles to produce the early advantage. 

The Miners then plated home three runs in the top of the third to take a one run lead before Jewell put the game away with two runs in the bottom of the fifth.   Brown came up with another RBI single followed by and RBI double from Sam Morman

Drew Mitrisin (4-3) picked up the win pitching a complete game going seven innings giving up 7 hits, three runs, and three walks while striking out two.

Brown, Morman, Patton and Bryan Porting all finished with two hits.  Brown collected two RBI's and Porting scored two runs. 

In game two, the Miners jumped out to an early lead scoring a single run in top of the first.  Jewell responded with single runs in the second and third highlighted by an RBI single from Porting in the second and Brown scored on a wild pitch in the third.  

Jewell scored two in the fifth off an RBI single from Bryan Rezin and a sacrifice fly from Clarke O'Dowd.  After the Miners scored a single run in the top of the sixth,

Jewell put the game away in the bottom half when Porting produced another RBI single which produced the winning 5-2 margin. 

Nick Farleigh (2-2) earned the win tossing 6.1 innings giving up six hits, two runs and walking three.  He also struck out three Miner batters.

Porting finished 3-3 with a run scored and three RBI's while Jesse Gray finished 2-4 with two runs scored.

The Cardinals, 15-24 overall and 13-16 in GLVC play will host Southwest Baptist University in a non-conference game on Tuesday, April 22 at 3:00 p.m. at Talley Stadium in Liberty,  Mo.
