Box Score 2 The William Jewell College Baseball Team swept Southwest Baptist University today in a non-conference doubleheader. Jewell won the first game 8-3 and dominated game two 12-0.
In the opener, the Bearcats would get on the board first, when they scored one run in the top of the first inning. Jewell then responded with two in the bottom of the frame when
Sam Morman delivered a single that scored two Cardinals.
The score would remain (2-1) until the top of the sixth inning, when Southwest Baptist scored two to take a 3-2 lead.
The Cards responded in a big way scoring six runs in the bottom of the sixth highlighted by
Luke Lucchetti's two run double.
Tim Miller (1-0) picked up the win tossing six innings giving up four hits, three runs and four walks while striking out three.
Morman finished 2-3 with two RBI's and run scored while Lucchetti finished 1-3 with two RBI's and a run scored.
The nightcap belonged to William Jewell as they jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second as
Bryan Porting and
Zach Tyson each produced RBI singles.
Jordan Rice's solo shot in the bottom of the third gave Jewell a 3-0 lead and the Cards scored four more times in the bottom of the fifth thanks to Tyson's triple that scored two. Jewell then continued their hot hitting by plating home five runs in the bottom of the sixth. Gray hit double that scored two, Tyson smacked a single to score one, and Porting singled home two runs to highlight the scoring in the sixth.
Brendan Beatty earned his first win of the season going seven innings giving up four hits, no runs, two walks and struck out six.
Tyson finished the game 3-4 with four RBI's and two runs scored while Porting went 3-5 with three RBI's.
The Cardinals return to action this Saturday, April 26 when they host Great Lakes Valley Conference foe Quincy University. The teams are scheduled to play a four game series with two on Saturday and two on Sunday and both games will start at 12:00 p.m.
