Late Rally Helps Cards Split Doubleheader with Quincy

The William Jewell College baseball team continued their series with Great Lakes Valley Conference opponent Quincy University on Saturday at Talley Stadium in Liberty, Mo. 

Quincy took game one 13-2 and Jewell rallied for a 6-5 game two win.

In game one, Quincy jumped out to a 4-0 lead scoring one in the first and three in the second.  The Hawks then exploded for four runs in the fourth, and three in the fifth and then added one in the two in the seventh.

Billy Kirkpatrick (1-6) took the loss for Jewell tossing three innings giving up seven hits, six runs, and walking two while striking out one. 

Hunter Brown led the Cardinals offense going 2-3 with two RBI's. 

Game two appeared to be going the way of the previous three for Quincy as they jumped out to a 5-0 lead with two in the second and three in the third. 

Jewell then scored single runs in the sixth and seventh to cut the lead to 5-2 before exploding for four runs in the bottom of the ninth.  Luke Lucchetti provided the walk off RBI single that scored Hunter Brown that produced the 6-5 winning margin.

David Collins (4-5) pitched a complete game giving up 10 hits, five runs (four earned) and two walks while striking out five. 

Lucchetti and Hunter Brown each went 2-4 with an RBI and a run scored and Vance Gorman went 2-3 with two RBI's.

The Cardinals, 18-27 overall and 14-18 in GLVC play, will host Washburn University on Tuesday, April 29 at Talley Stadium at 4:00 p.m.
