Baseball Splits GLVC Doubleheader with Truman State

The William Jewell College baseball team split a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Truman State University. With the split, the Cardinals moved to 19-28 overall and 15-19 in GLVC play.  Jewell took game one by a score of 3-0 but Truman State rallied for a 5-4 win in game two. 

In the opener, The Cards were able to manufacture single runs in the first and second inning respectively.  Sam Morman hit an RBI double in the fifth and the Cards relied on the pitching of Drew Mitrisin (5-4) who tossed another complete game to earn his fifth win of the season.  Mitrisin went all 9 innings giving up only six hits, no runs and one walk while striking out five.

Coleman Waheed finished 2-4 with a run scored and Morman, Clarke O'Dowd and Zach Tyson were all credited with RBI's. 

Jewell carried the momentum into game two of the doubleheader,  jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the second.  Hunter Brown's double scored Vance Gorman and Zach Tyson hit a two run single to highlight the scoring. 

Truman then scored a single run in the bottom of the second before O'Dowd  put Jewell up 4-1 with a solo home run in the top of third to give Jewell their final lead of the game at 4-1.

The Bulldogs rallied with a single run in the bottom of the third, a single run in the bottom of the fourth and then the winning two runs in the bottom of the fifth. 

David Collins (4-6) took the loss going six innings giving up 12 hits, five runs (four earned), with one walk and two strikeouts. 

Tyson led the offensive attack by going 2-3 with two RBI's. 

William Jewell will wrap up their four game series and the regular season with another doubleheader against Truman State tomorrow in Kirksville, Mo.  First pitch is slated for 12:00 p.m.
