Box Score 2 The William Jewell College baseball team closed the regular season portion of their schedule with a doubleheader at Kirksville, Mo., against Great Lakes Valley Conference opponent Truman State University. The Bulldogs swept the Cardinals taking game one 6-5 and game two 4-1 to take three out of four in the weekend series.
Jewell falls to 19-30 overall and 15-21 in GLVC play.
Game one saw the Cardinals quickly jump out to a 1-0 lead as
Clarke O'Dowd drove home
Bryan Porting with an RBI single. Truman scored a single run in the bottom of the frame to tie the score at one.
In the top of the second,
Hunter Brown scored on an error to give Jewell a 2-1 lead. The Cardinals extended the lead to 4-1 with single runs in the fourth and fifth before Truman mounted a huge comeback in the bottom of the sixth by scoring five runs.
The Cards cut Truman's lead to 6-5 when
Sam Morman hit a solo homerun in the top of the seventh but the Bulldogs were able to hang on for the 6-5 win.
Billy Kirkpatrick tossed five innings giving up five hits and four runs while walking five and striking out three. Reliever
Blaze Carano (2-2), was charged with the loss as he went .2 inning giving up three hits and two runs.
O'Dowd went 2-4 with two RBI's and Morman finished 2-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
In game two,
Jordan Rice's single and an error on Truman State allowed to
Vance Gorman to score the give the Cards a 1-0 lead in the top of the second.
Truman responded with three in the bottom of the third and one in the bottom of the eighth.
Brendan Beatty (1-1) took the loss going seven innings giving up only four hits, and three runs while walking two and striking out three.
Coleman Waheed finished 2-4 while Rice was 1-4 with Jewell's only RBI of the game.
