Box Score 2 The William Jewell College baseball team wrapped up their four game Great Lakes Valley Conference series with Saint Joseph's College on Sunday at Talley Stadium. The Cardinals and Pumas split a pair of one run games with Jewell winning game one 2-1 and Saint Joseph's taking game two 9-8.
In game one,
Preston Felgate and
Chris Mancha combined to toss a four hitter only giving up one run. Mancha earned the win to improve to 3-1 on the year.
The Puma's took a 1-0 lead with a single run in the top of fourth only to see Jewell respond to produce the winning margin with two runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Bryan Rezin's two out double scored
Coleman Waheed and
Dane Erbst followed that with an RBI single that scored Rezin. The Cardinal hurlers were able to keep the Pumas in check the rest of the way.
Game two featured more offense for both teams. The Pumas jumped out to a 3-0 in the top of the fourth only to see Jewell tie the game at 3 in the bottom half of the fourth. In the top of the fifth Saint Joseph's scored two runs to retake the lead. Jewell would have an answer for each of the Puma's early rallies as the Cards scored a single run in the bottom of the fifth, two runs in the bottom of the sixth and
Coleman Waheed hit a two run double in the eighth to give Jewell a 8-7 lead heading into the top of the ninth.
The Pumas were able to get to
Bryan Rezin for two runs to take a 9-8 lead with one last at bat awaiting the Cardinals. Jewell however would not be able to answer for one final rally and Saint Joseph's was able to salvage the final game of the four game set.
The Cardinals (9-3, 3-1 GLVC) will host Newman University on Tuesday, March 17 at Talley Stadium. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
