Box Score 2 The William Jewell College baseball team split a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader with Missouri S&T on Sunday afternoon falling 8-4 in game one, but coming back to take game two 10-7. With the split, the Cardinals are now 24-18 overall and 9-11 in the GLVC. S&T is now 27-14 overall and 12-7 in conference play.
In the opener, Jewell jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning off a solo homerun from
Dylan Christie. It would end up being the first of five homeruns for Christie on the day and his sixth during the four game series.

The Miners offense came alive with a single run in the fourth, two in the fifth and five in the sixth to put the game out of reach.
Sophomore
Brendan Beatty started and picked up the loss in game one to fall to 0-2. Beatty worked 4.2 innings in which he allowed 8 hits, three runs (all earned), plus he struck out four while walking two batters.
Christie finished game one going 2-for-2 with two solo homeruns.
He continued his power surge in game two by smacking three more homeruns to help the Cardinals take game two by a score of 10-7.
The Miners jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one before Christie launched a solo shot to left field in the second inning.
After S&T scored a single run in the third the Cardinals tied the game 3-3 with two runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Jewell then exploded for five funs in the bottom of the sixth keyed by Christie's two-run homerun to centerfield.
The Miners put together a rally of their own and plated home three runs in the top of the top of seventh to close the gap to 8-7 before the Cardinals used the long ball to put the game away.
Drew Standifer hit a solo homerun in the seventh and Christie hit his fifth homerun of the day, another solo shot, in the eighth to give Jewell the winning 10-7 margin.
Billy Kirkpatrick tossed 6.1 innings to earn his third win of the season. He gave up 9 hits, and five runs (four earned) while striking out six.
Chris Mancha pitched two innings to earn his sixth save for the Cardinals.
Christie was 3-for-4 with four RBI's while
Garrett McKinzie broke out of a slump to go 3-for-4 with and RBI and a run scored.
The Cardinals will continue GLVC play when they travel to Kirksville, Mo., on Saturday, April 30 to begin a four game series with Truman State. First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday.
