Box Score 2 The William Jewell College baseball team was swept in a double header with Cameron University on Saturday.
Victor DeJesus' one-out grand slam in the bottom of the ninth propelled the Cameron University Aggies over the William Jewell Cardinals on Saturday afternoon in Lawton, Okla.
The Cardinals got on the board in the top of the first off RBI's from
Brad Jelinek and
Dylan Christie and led 2-0.
Zach Hutcherson hurled a solid six innings giving up six hits and no runs while striking out three.
Vijay Patel (0-1) was saddled with the loss giving up all five runs in only a third of an inning.
Patel entered the ninth with a 2-0 lead and allowed the first three batters he faced to reach. The Aggies scored a run on a passed ball and after a strikeout DeJesus smacked a grand slam to right field for the walk off win.
In game two, the Cardinals jumped out to a 2-0 lead only to see Cameron tie it up in the bottom of the first. Jewell then scored 5 in the top of the fourth and led 8-4 heading to the bottom of the seventh where the Aggies bats came alive and plated home five runs.
Mack Stephenson got his first career start for the Cardinals and went 3.2 innings giving up one hit, four runs (two earned) but walked six batters.
Thomas Hennelly (0-1) took the loss giving up two runs without recording an out.
Drew Standifer and Jelinek led the attack offensively with two hits a piece with two runs scored and one RBI each.
Brendan Carney had three hits and one run scored.
Jewell falls to 0-2 on the season while the Aggies improve to 9-1.
The Cardinals will be back in action on Friday, February 24 when they take on Arlington Baptist College in Arlington, Texas. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
