The Cardinals record drops to 16-18 on the season while Newman improves to 18-21.Â

Brad Jelinek was 3-for-4 including a two-run homerun in the eighth to lead the Cardinals offensively.Â
Dylan Christie also went deep, a two-run shot in the fifth inning.

Jewell's starting right handed pitcher, Wyatt Schultz (1-1) received the loss in the game after pitching two innings and giving up three hits and six earned runs.

The Cardinals will head to Rolla, Mo., to continue Great Lakes Valley Conference play against Missouri S&T this weekend. The Cardinals and the Miners will play a four-game series, with a double-header on Saturday April 22 at noon and 3:00 p.m., and another double-header on Sunday, April 23.Â
