William Jewell first baseman Christian Chalabi has been named the first Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week of the 2018 season, as announced by the conference Monday afternoon. 

Chalabi, who moved into the starting role this spring, hit .750 with two triples, three doubles, eight RBI, and five runs scored through the first three games of the season. He boasted a .867 on-base percentage thanks to drawing five walks. He also registered 13 total bases and a 1.625 slugging percentage. 

The sophomore opened the weekend by going 5-for-7 with two triples, two doubles, two walks, and seven RBI in the Saturday double-header opposite Christian Brothers. On Sunday, the Buccaneers wanted no part of his bat, allowing an RBI double and issuing four walks. 

This is the first weekly honor of his career and the first for the Cardinals since Dylan Christie on April 25, 2016.
