William Jewell senior
Tyler Murphy has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Baseball Player of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday.
Murphy hit .579 on the week, reaching base better than 67 percent of the time, to help lead the Cardinals to a 4-1 week, including a sweep of crosstown rival Rockhurst and the first wins over Illinois Springfield since 2013. The senior totaled 11 hits, including two home runs, to go with five RBI, and 11 runs scored. The utility player appeared in three different defensive positions, including on the hill where he earned the save against Rockhurst.
This is the first Player of the Week honor for Murphy in his career and the second for the Cardinals this season, marking the first time Jewell has earned two weekly offensive honors in the same season since 2015.
