Jewell Football Announces Staffing Updates

William Jewell head football coach Mike McGlinchey has released a 2020 staffing update which includes four additions to the Cardinal program. On the offensive side of the ball, Neil Linhart will serve as the offensive coordinator with Clarence Anderson joining the staff as the wide receiver coach. Defensively, Jerome Riase has been named the defensive coordinator while Louis Cortes will coach defensive backs. Moses Harper and Pat Hansen will continue to serve on staff, overseeing the offensive line and inside linebackers respectively.
 
Neil Linhart, Offensive Coordinator
Linhart comes to the Cardinals from South Dakota School of Mines where he spent two seasons in the same position for the Hardrockers. While there, he helped his team break or tie 27 offensive school records and led the NCAA-II in passing yards per game. Additionally, he coached seven All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference selections, including running back Ahmad Lewis who set the SDSM rushing record with nearly 1,400 yards. While with South Dakota Mines he also helped oversee budget and travel, camps and fundraising.  Prior to the Hardrockers, Linhart spent two seasons at Presentation College (S.D.) where he led the Saints to national rankings in the top 40 in passing yards, points and yards per game. He also spent four years at Central Lakes College (Minn.) during which time mentored a three All-Americans and led his team to a national ranking in four consecutive seasons. Throughout his career he has also made stops at Bemidji State (Minn.) and Eureka College (Ill.) 
 
He played collegiately as a wide receiver at Millikin University where he earned his undergraduate degree in exercise science with an emphasis in sports management. He also holds a master's in sports, recreation and tourism from the University of Illinois. He is married to wife Samantha and is the father of three-month old son Walker. 
 
Clarence Anderson, Wide Receivers / Video Coordinator 
Anderson comes to The Hill from Bethany College where he served one year as the quarterback and wide receiver coach while also working with the return team. Prior to Bethany he spent three seasons with his alma mater Ottawa University where he was the wide receiver coach and video coordinator for the Braves. Anderson also spent time as a professional, with both the Wichita Force and Warsaw Eagles (Warsaw, Poland). With the latter, he was a two-time Returner of the Year and played in the 2013 national championship while serving as an Ambassador for American Football. 
 
He spent his collegiate years at Ottawa University where he was a two-year captain and two-time NAIA AFCA All-American. He also earned three All-Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference First Team honors after finishing his career with 4,329 receiving yards on 279 receptions with 49 touchdowns. Additionally, he totaled 1,762 kick return yards and 635 punt return yards. He is the Braves' all-time leader in kickoff return yards, attempts and touchdowns to go along with points, total touchdowns, receiving touchdowns, receiving yards and all-purpose yards. Also a standout on the track, he was a two-time NAIA All-American and a 13-time KCAC Champion. He earned his bachelor's degree in sports studies and a master's in education, both from Ottawa and has seven children, Cameron, Caylen, Chloe, Chance, Christian, Miyah, and Corbin. 
 
Jerome Riase, Defensive Coordinator
Riase joins the Cardinal staff after spending one season at Morehead State University where served as the defensive line coach and oversaw football operations while coaching a first team All-Pioneer League selection in Vaughn Taylor. Prior to Morehead State he spent one season at Georgia Tech during which time he led his team to a second-place finish in the ACC Coastal Division and an appearance at the 2018 Quick Lane Bowl. The Yellow Jackets led the ACC and were 12th nationally in turnovers forced during that season and also ranked fourth in rush defense. He previously spent time at Wofford College, Butler University, and Ashland University. With the former, his defense led the Southern Conference in rush defense and finished second in scoring defensive and total defense while coaching an All-American and helping the Terriers to the FCS Quarterfinals. Riase also recruited and coached two-time All-American Jamie Meder at Ashland before winning back-to-back Pioneer League titles at Butler. 
 
He graduated from Miami University with a bachelor's degree in psychology and is the proud father of a son, Jerome, Jr.  
 
 
Louis Cortes, Defensive Backs / Recruiting Coordinator 
Cortes comes to Jewell from the University of Northern Colorado where he spent two seasons coaching primarily outside linebackers. During his time with UNC, he helped the Bears post more tackles, interceptions and tackles-for-loss than the previous season while also assisting with special teams. Prior to Northern Colorado, he served as a defensive assistant at Colorado School of Mines where he coached corners. Additionally, he served as the video and scout team coordinator and assisted with special teams. 
 
He played collegiately at Northwestern College where he earned his bachelor's degree in economics. He is currently pursuing a master's in sports coaching from Northern Colorado. 
 
The Cardinals, who will be under the leadership of new head coach Mike McGlinchey, will begin spring practice on March 24 and the 2020 schedule will be announced later this month. 

William Jewell College would like to extend a sincere thank you to Sam Brown who retired after spending 12 years with the Cardinals as both a quarterback coach and head coach.
