SERIES INFORMATION
- Maryville holds an 8-5 advantage over the Cardinals in the NCAA-era series and has won three of the last four. In the previous meeting, the Cardinals got off to a strong start but a run by the Saints to close the first half was too much to overcome in the final 20 minutes despite a season-high 18 offensive rebounds. Ainsley Tolson led the Cardinals with 12 points.
- Truman and Jewell have met 14 times since the Bulldogs joined the GLVC in the fall of 2013, with Truman winning 11 of those meetings. The two teams met for the first time this season on January 6, with the Bulldogs winning 77-63. In that matchup, Kiara Bradley scored 17 points, including the 1,000th of her career, and added four assists.
CARDINAL NOTES
- The Cardinals snapped a three game losing skid last Saturday with 73-67 win over Missouri S&T on the road. The Miners rallied from down 10 to pull within one late in the fourth quarter. Jewell outscored S&T 12-7 over the final minutes to secure the win as Ainsley Tolson posted a career-high of 20 points for the third time in the last four games.
- Jewell enters the week as one of the top teams in the nation in total steals, ranking No. 6 overall with 98 total, an average of 9.8 per game. Despite being sixth in Division II, that total is still third in the GLVC, behind national leader Lewis (123) and Drury (108). Kiara Bradley (8th), Tolson (32nd) and Sydney Offield (55th) all rank in the top-75 in the country in individual steals.
- Bradley continues to be one of the top scorers in the country, currently sitting at 25th overall with 20.5 points per game. While she is one of the top free throw shooters in the GLVC, she does majority of her work from the field. The senior is leading Division I in field goal attempts with 168 and makes with 75, while shooting 44.6% from the floor.
- Playing without a true center Jewell is second only to Lewis in the GLVC and 11th nationally in three-point field goal attempts, shooting 27.1%. Annemarie Boeh leads the Cardinals from long range, hitting 11-of-25 on the season for 44% while Bradley has connected on 23-of-65 for 35%.
- As a team, Jewell shoots 37.5% from the floor which is 13th in the league but are sixth with a 74.2% clip from the free throw line.
- In the win over Missouri S&T, Tolson went 14-of-14 from the free throw line, on her way to a game-high 20 points. Those 14 free throws are tied for the most by a single player in the GLVC this season and makes her the only player in the league to post a perfect free throw percentage in a game while attempting more than nine shots. Additionally, this total was just one off Jewell's single-game record of 15, set by Chris Keys, which she did twice, most recently against Maryville in January 2015.
- The freshman class for Jewell has seen significant court time this winter as Libby Arnold, Elizabeth Ernsting and Aleah Asare have all played in at least eight games, combining for 27 minutes and 4.7 points per game. Ernsting has started the last three games for the Cardinals while Asare saw a career-high 17 minutes on Saturday at Missouri S&T.
- The Cardinals pull down an average of 34.8 rebounds per game and fifth in the conference and 20th in Division with 348 total.
- Jewell will be one of the deepest teams in the GLVC this season with seven seniors, including three redshirt seniors, to go along with four other players who appeared in at least 20 games last year. The Cardinals graduated four, but only one of those players saw action in 10 games, with the rest out due to injury.
- Jill Slominski is now in her 25th season at the helm of the Cardinal program, owning more than 440 wins which is tops in the GLVC and tied for 22nd among all active Division II coaches.
