CARDINAL NOTES
- Elizabeth Quinn is picking up where she left off as a junior, being a force at the net, averaging 1.2 blocks per set over the last five matches. The senior has 295 career blocks, the ninth most among active Division II players and just 16 shy of breaking Jewell's NCAA era career record, currently held by Christina Pratt.
- Another senior, Maddie Wingert, also continues to climb the active leaders chart as her 726 kills makes her 28th among Division II players, which is third most in the GLVC.
- Hannah Cope has emerged as an every day starter at setter, starting six of Jewell's seven matches this season. The sophomore is leading the staff with 5.74 assists per set which is eighth in the GLVC, while playing primarily in a 6-2 offense.
- While Quinn is the undeniable leader along the front row, she and the freshman Jorey Luebbert have made quite a potent 1-2 punch in the middle, as both players are ranked in the top 15 in the GLVC in total blocks and blocks per set. Quinn has 24 total for an average of 0.92 through seven matches while Luebbert has 15 for 0.75 per set in six games.
- Jewell has used three different liberos through the first seven matches of 2021. Only three players total have played that position over the previous five years as Olivia Tolberd manned the position for 351 straight sets before an injury put Stefanie Richterkessing in the opposite jersey for final 61 sets of 2018 after which Kennedy Ruckh took over last season as a senior. Haidan Baade has played four matches this year as the libero with Kaci Behrens having two and Jordan Collard one. All three have played at least 15 sets, with Baade and Behrens appearing 25. Baade leads the crew wtih 3.28 digs per set while Behrens adds 2.40.
- Lily Johnson has seen plenty of action early this season as the junior has appeared in six matches (15 sets), starting the last five. She is currently third on the team with 1.87 kills per set, including tying her career high twice already this year with 10 kills against Southwest Baptist and Quincy.
- The Cardinals have struggled bit on the offensive side, averaging just 9.58 kills per set which is 14th in the GLVC. However, defensively at the net, blocking continues to be one of Jewell's strengths as the are eighth in the league with 1.81 blocks per set, and third with 47 total blocks.
- Senior Lacey Albers came on strong at the end of last weekend, getting her first start of the year and finishing with four kills on nine swings to go along with a team-leading five blocks against McKendree.
- Freshman Katie Paine saw her first significant action last weekend, averaging one kill and two digs per set while also picking up four blocks and two aces.
- Carolyn Raynes is now in her seventh season at the helm of the Cardinal program and has made strides each year, including double-digit wins in four straight seasons and the first All-GLVC First Team performer in former libero Olivia Tolberd (2015-2019), who also became Jewell's all-time digs leader with 2,201.
