Box Score 2 ST. CHARLES, Mo. - The William Jewell baseball team fell twice in a doubleheader at No. 6 Lindenwood by finals of 7-3 and 13-3 to drop to 1-5 on the season.
GAME ONE
Jewell 3, Lindenwood 7
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lindenwood grabbed an early lead with a run in the bottom of the first inning. The Cardinals tied the game in the third as Ben Click led off with a double before coming around to score on the RBI single off the bat of Cameron Filege. The Lions retook the lead in the bottom of the third on a sacrifice fly.
- Alex Epp tied the game at two in the top of the fifth after doubling and scoring on a wild pitch. Lindenwood plated four runs on four hits in the bottom of the frame and added another on a solo home run by Mitchell Krebs in the sixth.
- Jewell was able to plate another run in the eight on an RBI single from Drew Reed, scoring Fliege.
FOR THE CARDINALS
- Jewell outhit the Lions 12-9 led by three each from Fliege and Jake Wilcox. Reed and Epp added two a piece.
- Mack Stephenson (1-1) took the loss, working five frames, allowing six earned runs while striking out five.
FOR THE LIONS
- Krebs led Lindenwood with four hits and two RBI.
- Tyler Cassmeyer (2-0) earned the win, allowing eight hits and two earned runs.
GAME TWO
Jewell 3, Lindenwood 13
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lions again grabbed an early lead in the top of the first but Jewell quickly responded by tying the game on an RBI double from Epp.
- Lindenwood scored three runs on four hits in the third frame to take a 4-1 lead.
- Jewell cut the deficit in half in the top of the fifth as Epp singled and scored on a base hit by Anthony Hansen.
- The Lions added one run in the bottom of the fifth and six more in the following frame to break the game open, 11-2.
- Connor Morehouse drew a pinch hit walk in the seventh and scored but the Lions plated two more in the eighth to end the game, 13-3.
FOR THE CARDINALS
- Epp finished with a game high three hits, with one RBI and one run.
- Alex Schneider (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing six earned in 5.1 innings.
FOR THE LIONS
- Lindenwood posted 13 hits, with five different players having two each. Bryce Beckmann scored a game-high three runs.
- Michael Cessna (1-0) got the win in relief, working 2.1 innings, allowing an earned run.
UP NEXT
Jewell returns to Greene Stadium next weekend for the first time since March 8, 2020 when they host Missouri-St. Louis for a three game series beginning Friday at 1 p.m.
