Baseball Makes Weekend Changes, Hosts UMSL Friday-Saturday Only

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell baseball team will open the home portion of the schedule this weekend, but will have to put off their first game at Talley Stadium in more than a year for a little while longer. The Cardinals will welcome Missouri-St. Louis to town for a four-game series that will be played at the Kansas City Urban Youth Academy with doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday beginning at noon.

CARDINAL NOTES
  • Jewell is coming off a tough weekend that saw them going 0-4 against nationally ranked Lindenwood. The Cardinals had chances in each of the four games but were unable to secure a win. 
  • Cole Conner has led the Cardinals with a .357 batting average over five games played through the first two weeks, including a home run. 
  • Cameron Fliege leads the team with eight RBI while Alex Epp has added seven, along with six runs. 
  • Connor McGonigal had his first appearance as a Cardinal last week, throwing two innings and not allowing a run. Shane Cavallo leads all pitchers with a start with a 2.61 ERA over 10.1 innings of work. 
  • Mike Stockton is now in his 20th season with the Cardinals and owns nearly 560 wins. 
 
ABOUT MISSOURI-ST. LOUIS 
  • UMSL enters the week at 2-5 and will be playing in their first GLVC games of the season after their league opening weekend at Drury was postponed. 
  • As a team, the Tritons hit .210, led by Carson Holin's .367 average and 11 hits. 
  • Holden Mayberry has started two games and boasts a 1.46 ERA over 12.1 innings with a team-high 14 strikeouts. 
  • Grant Brunstetter has made three relief appearances for four innings and has a 2.25 ERA and one of the Triton's two wins. 
  • Cory Wahl begins his third season as the head coach and holds a 36-83 record.
