Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The William Jewell baseball team took an early lead in the opener of a four-game series with Drury but faltered late, falling 10-9. The loss drops the Cardials to 4-7 on the season and 3-6 in GLVC play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jewell took the early lead, scoring two runs in the opening inning. With two outs, Jade Smoot doubled scoring Anthony Hansen, before crossing the plate himself on a single by Nick Modrcin.
- The Cardinals broke things open in the second, scoring four runs on three hits. Jake Wilcox posted an RBI double before Quincy Alrdrich scored on a wild pitch, followed by Wilcox on an error. Smoot then sent his second double of the game to the outfield to score Cameron Fliege and put the Cardinals up six.
- Drury got one run back on a double by Jackson Dierenfeld to cut the Jewell lead to one.
- In the seventh, Modrcin recorded his second RBI of the day on a sac fly to left field scoring Hansen to push the lead back to six.
- The Panthers plated six runs on five hits and a Jewell error to tie the game at seven. Jewell responded by immediately retaking the lead as an error and a walk allowed Fliege and Smoot to reach base before both scoring on a passed ball.
- In the bottom of the eighth, back-to-back errors scored a run and pulled Drury within one. A Dierenfeld single tied the game at nine before a one out triple put the Panthers on top.
FOR THE CARDINALS
- The Cardinals put out 13 hits, led by three from Smoot and two by Hansen.
- Modrcin was tops with three RBI while Hansen, Fliege and Smoot all scored two runs.
- Nyk Yaquab (1-2) took the loss, allowing two earned runs.
FOR THE PANTHERS
- The Panthers outhit Jewell 13-11, led by three by Aaron Mann, who also had two RBI.
- DJ McNew scored three runs.
- Michael Barnes earned the win in relief, throwing two-thirds of an inning.
