INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Great Lakes Valley Conference has released the postseason awards for the 2021 baseball season, which include William Jewell's
Anthony Hansen and
Jake Wilcox. Both players are earning their first career honors and were named to the All-GLVC First Team in the outfield and as a utility player, respectively.
Hansen enjoyed the best season of his career hitting a team leading .387 with 53 hits, 14 doubles, two triples and nine home runs. He also drove in 33 runs while scoring 37, both team highs. He posted 16 multi-hit games, including seven with at least three hits. He scored two or more runs in 14 contests with 10 games of at least two RBI.
Wilcox becomes the first freshman since 2013 to earn All-GLVC honors for the Cardinals, having split time between second base and center field this spring. He followed closely behind Hansen in nearly every category for Jewell, hitting .346 with 47 hits, seven doubles, 18 RBI and 23 runs while leading the team with three triples. His 17 stolen bases are tied for fourth in the GLVC and is the most by a Cardinal since
Christian Chalabi in 2018.
Hansen and Wilcox become the 17
th and 18
th players to earn All-GLVC honors for Jewell since moving to the league prior to the 2012 season. The last time the Cardinals had two First Team selections was 2018 with pitcher
Brendan Beatty and outfielder
Chase Redick.
