CARDINAL NOTES
- Jewell is coming off an 11-29 season a year ago, going 9-27 in conference play.
- The Cardinals return a large portion of their offense from last season, led by All-GLVC first teamers Anthony Hansen and Jake Wilcox. Hansen hit a team best .387 with nine home runs, 14 doubles and 33 RBI while Wilcox hit .346 with 23 runs and 17 stolen bases while splitting time between second base and center field.
- Jewell lost right fielder Jade Smoot to graduation last spring after starting 39 games while Cole Conner, Cameron Fliege, Drew Reed and Alex Epp are among the everyday players back in 2022.
- On the mound, the Cardinals will be fresh as fifth year senior Reed Pegram is the most experienced arm back this season. Pegram went 3-2 last year in a team high 16 appearances. Jake MacDonald, Chase Goeringer, Will Fisher, Will Bailey Brandon Valentine and Jackson Bodinson also return for the pitching staff.
- Head coach Mike Stockton begins his 21st season at the helm of the Jewell program in 2022. The second longest tenured coach in program history, Stockton is chasing win No. 600 for his career.
ABOUT BEMIDJI STATE
- Bemidji State opened their 2022 season last weekend with a four-game series with Rockhurst. The Beavers dropped all four games by three runs or less.
- Parker Borg played in all four games, leading the team with a .462 average and two home runs in the opening week. Borg also started one game on the mound and did not allow a run in two innings.
- As a staff, the Beavers posted a 6.23 ERA over 26 innings of work with 25 strikeouts and 11 walks last weekend.
- Matt Ellinghuysen is in his seventh season as the head coach for Bemidji State after serving as an assistant for three years. He was also a third baseman for the Beavers from 2010-13.
