LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell baseball team heads out for its first true road test of the season to open Great Lakes Valley Conference play this weekend. The Cardinals played 16 of their first 17 games at home* with their only road contest taking place at nearby Avila.
*During field construction at Talley Stadium, the Cardinals are making their temporary home various fields across the metro. In 16 games at Urban Youth Academy and Capitol Federal Sports Complex they have gone a combined 13-3.

CARDINAL NOTES
- Jewell is coming off a 4-2 week, picking up series wins over Parkside and University of Mary.
- The Cardinals enter the new week ranked third in Division II and tops in the GLVC with a .359 team batting average. Anthony Hansen paces the team with a .492 clip, seventh best in the nation, while adding six doubles, six home runs, and 30 runs scored. The redshirt senior became Jewell's NCAA era leader in runs last week with his 106th time across the plate.
- Cole Conner follows Hansen closely at .475 on the season, ninth best in Division II while Cameron Fliege is at .411.
- Alex Epp is hitting. 375 with five home runs and a team high 20 RBI. The junior has struck out just twice this season and ranks fifth among Division II players as toughest to strikeout.
- After a bit of a slow start, Jonah Sanford put together a solid week at the plate last week, including a five hit performance against Mary. The sophomore has upped his average to .353 with eight RBI.
- Drew Dant is tops on the pitching staff with eight appearances and a 2.40 ERA. The junior is eighth in Division II with five saves, which also leads the GLVC.
- Among starters, Jake MacDonald and Reed Pegram have emerged as two of the best for Jewell, sitting at 29 and 20 strikeouts, and a 3.86 and 4.13 ERA, respectively.
- Head coach Mike Stockton is in his 21st season at the helm of the Jewell program in 2022. The second longest tenured coach in program history, got career win number 600 last week in an 11-10 win over Wisconsin Parkside.
ABOUT MISSOURI-ST. LOUIS
- Missouri-St. Louis comes into conference play at 1-11 on the season, with their lone win coming over Upper Iowa.
- Brandon Olion hit a team high .444 with four doubles while Matt DiMemmo is second with a .351 average and 11 runs scored. As a team, the Tritons hit .259.
- Trent Anderson has made five appearances without giving up an earned run to lead the Triton pitching staff.
- Among starters, Nick Torres, leads with 15.1 innings and 13 strikeouts to go with an 8.22 ERA. As a staff, UMSL has an 11.70 ERA while allowing opponents to hit .345.
- Cory Wahl is in his fourth season as head coach at UMSL after two years as an assistant Texas A&M Corpus Christi.
