Cardinal Baseball Set for Four Game Series with Lindenwood

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell baseball team gets set for a tough GLVC test this weekend with a four-game series against Lindenwood, beginning Friday.

Due to field construction at Talley Stadium, this weekend's games will take place at the Urban Youth Academy in downtown Kansas City.

CARDINAL NOTES
  • Jewell enters the week at 16-6 after winning three-of-four at Missouri-St. Louis last weekend before dropping a tough 13-3 decision on Tuesday at Truman. 
  • The Cardinals enter the new week ranked seventh in Division II with a .344 batting average. Anthony Hansen continues to a menace at the plate, hitting .444 with 36 hits, including nine home runs and 34 runs scored. The redshirt senior set the new NCAA era career RBI record over the weekend with his 95th and already is the career leader in runs scored. 
  • Cole Conner follows Hansen closely at .416 on the season, while Cameron Fliege is at .411 and Alex Epp, .409.  
  • Epp, a junior, has struck out just twice this season and ranks second among Division II players as toughest to strikeout. 
  • Drew Dant is tops on the pitching staff with eight appearances and a 2.11 ERA. The junior is 14th in Division II with five saves, which also leads the GLVC. 
  • Among starters, Jake MacDonald boasts a 3.26 ERA and 35 strikeouts while Jackson Bodinson sits at 5.96 and 21, respectively. 
  • Head coach Mike Stockton is in his 21st season at the helm of the Jewell program in 2022. The second longest tenured coach in program history, and recently won his 600th career game. 
     
ABOUT LINDENWOOD
  • Lindenwood enters the week at 15-10 on the year and 4-0 in conference play and were the preseason pick to win the GLVC Green Division.  
  • The Lions lead the GLVC with a team ERA of 4.14 and three shutouts. Ryan O'Connell has made seven starts with four complete games and ranks third in the conference with a 2.55 ERA while striking out 46. 
  • Sam Kissane leads the offense with a .329 average and 18 RBI while Michael Ward boasts eight doubles and a team high 19 runs. 
  • Doug Bletcher is in his 15th season with the Lindenwood program and owns more than 750 wins and seven conference titles.
