Cardinals Host Maryville in Key GLVC Series

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell baseball team hosts Maryville this weekend in a battle for sole possession of second place in the GLVC Green Division.

CARDINAL NOTES
  • Jewell comes into the weekend with an overall record of 24-12 and 10-6 in the GLVC after winning six of their last seven. 
  • Over the last seven games, the Cardinal offense has exploded, outscoring opponents 94-50 and averaging more than 13 runs per game. On Tuesday, in a win at Wayne State College, Jewell put up an NCAA era record 22 runs on 21 hits. 
  • Alex Epp leads the lineup with a .419 average, 57 hits and four triples to go with eight home runs. Cole Conner follows close behind a .409 with 52 hits while Anthony Hansen ranks second in the GLVC with 13 home runs and third with 52 runs scored while hitting .387. 
  • As a team, Jewell is third in the conference and 17th nationally with a .332 average and is second with 67 stolen bases. 
  • The pitching staff currently leads the GLVC and is fourth in Division II with eight complete games after three in the series against Rockhurst. Jake MacDonald leads the staff with a 3.04 ERA, 52 strikeouts and a 6-1 mark over 50.1 innings. Jake Sawyer follows with 40 innings of work, a 5-1 record and 3.15 ERA. 
  • Last weekend, Jackson Bodinson became the second pitcher this season to strikeout 12 batters, joining MacDonald, which ties the NCAA era single game mark. 
  • Head coach Mike Stockton is in his 21st season at the helm of the Jewell program in 2022. The second longest tenured coach in program history and won his 600th career game earlier this season. 
     
ABOUT MARYVILLE
  • Like the Cardinals, Maryville comes into the week with hot bats and have won seven of their last eight contests. The Saints sit at 21-16 on the year and 10-6 in the GLVC. 
  • Alex Hoff, the reigning GLVC Player of the Week, leads the Maryville offense with a .394 batting average, 12 doubles, 33 runs and 10 home runs. 
  • Elias Stevens is hitting .323 on the season with a team high 40 RBI, which ranks ninth in the conference. 
  • On the mound, Ben Prywitch is one of the top relievers in the league with a 1.05 ERA over 25.2 innings. Meanwhile, Jacob Kroeger boasts a 3.43 ERA, 4-1 record and 63 strikeouts over 44.2 innings of work. 
  • Pat Evers is in his fourth season at Maryville after winning more than 170 games Jefferson College.
