Charlie Funk starred on the basketball court for Jewell from 1972-1976. One of the greatest shooters in program history he was a First Team All-Conference honoree three times and was twice selected First Team All-District, including a unanimous choice as a senior. He holds numerous Jewell records, among them 2,077 points which was the all-time mark at the time of his graduation. Additionally, he held records for points scored in a half (32), points in a game (49), points average in a season (25.9), field goals in a game (18), field goals in a season (346), career free throws (454), and consecutive games in double figures (85). He was named the recipient of the Cecil Martin Award for Jewell's Athlete of the Year, named Who's Who Among American Colleges/Universities, graduated magna cum laude and a member of the Dean's List for seven straight semesters.
