Hall of Fame
Richard Hyder was a four year letter winner in football, basketball, and track. His career was interrupted by military service during WWII. He held the school record in the high hurdles until 1976. He was considered the team’s best player in 1942-43. Hyder averaged over 9.0 points per game that season (a school record for guards at the time). In 1947 he received the Cecil R. Martin Award as Jewell’s Athlete of the Year.
