Tom Cox attended Jewell from 1953-57, earning four varsity letters in basketball as a member of two Missouri College Athletic Union Championship teams. The Cardinals won the title in 1957 as well as the NAIA District 16 title which qualified them for the program's first NAIA National Tournament appearance where they reached the second round.
Cox finished his career as the second all-time scoring leader and held the record of 39 points in a single game. He averaged 10.1 rebounds per game as a junior and was a First Team All-Conference selection as a junior and as a senior.
