Norman Short a native of North Kansas City, Mo., graduated from Jewell in three years. He was a three-year letter winner in basketball and lettered twice each in football and track & field. He set the WJC record in the broad jump at 22’10” as a sophomore. He was a three time MCAU All-Conference selection in basketball and led the Cardinals in scoring all three years. Co-Captain as a senior with WJC Hall of Famer, Dr. Richard Bowles. He played for Dick Harp and Don Farris in basketball. Norman also coached at Jewell three years from 1955-58. He was an assistant in football and basketball and was the head coach of baseball and guided Jewell to its first ever NAIA National Baseball Tournament in 1957.
